Can Symmetry Non-restoration Solve the Monopole Problem ?

چکیده
We reexamine a recently proposed non-inflationary solution to the monopole problem, based on the possibility that spontaneously broken Grand-Unified symmetries do not get restored at high temperature. We go beyond leading order by studying the self-consistent one-loop equations of the model. We find large next-to-leading corrections that reverse the lowest order results and cause symmetry restoration at high temperature. 1 E-mail addresses: [email protected] , [email protected]

Magnetic monopoles from gauge theory phase transitions
Thermal fluctuations of the gauge field lead to monopole formation at the grand unified phase transition in the early universe, even if the transition is merely a smooth crossover. The dependence of the produced monopole density on various parameters is qualitatively different from theories with global symmetries, and the monopoles have a positive correlation at short distances. The number dens...
متن کاملSpectroscopy, Equation of State and Monopole Percolation in Lattice Qed with Two Flavors
Non-compact lattice QED with two flavors of light dynamical quarks is simulated on 16 lattices, and the chiral condensate, monopole density and susceptibility and the meson masses are measured. Data from relatively high statistics runs at relatively small bare fermion masses of 0.005, 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03 (lattice units) are presented. Three independent methods of data analysis indicate that the...
متن کاملOn Symmetry Non-restoration at High Temperature
We study the effect of next-to-leading order contributions on the phenomenon of symmetry non-restoration at high temperature in an O(N1)× O(N2) model. 1 E-mail addresses: [email protected] , [email protected] It is a well known fact that broken symmetries are usually restored at sufficiently high temperatures [1, 2, 3]. Nevertheless, as already noticed by Weinberg [2], there are mode...
متن کاملSymmetry Non-Restoration via Order 10−10 B and L Asymmetries
It has been observed that a large lepton asymmetry, nL/s ≈ 0.1, can prevent the Higgs expectation value from going to zero at high temperature, resulting in the non-restoration of the SU(2) × U(1) gauge symmetry and other symmetries. This could allow for the elimination of domain walls and other dangerous topological defects. Here we show that if the reheating temperature after inflation, TR, i...
متن کاملRole of Dual Higgs Mechanism in Chiral Phase Transition at Finite Temperature
The chiral phase transition at finite temperature is studied by using the Schwinger-Dyson equation in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, in which the dual Higgs mechanism plays an essential role on both the color confinement and the spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking. At zero temperature, quark condensate is strongly correlated with the string tension, which is generated by QCD-monopole condens...
